Guthrie Deputies Respond To Truck Hitting Dollar General And A Rear-end Collision Over The Past Week

The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office reports they responded to two motor vehicle incidents in the past week, one occurring on Wednesday, Aug. 18 and the other on Sunday, Aug. 22. There were no injuries and minor damage reported in Wednesday’s accident that occurred at approximately 6:35 p.m. in the Dollar General parking lot in Guthrie Center. Upon arrival, deputies learned that 24-year-old Christopher Leon Stamp-Powders had clipped the building with the 2017 Chevrolet pickup truck he was driving. He told authorities he was simply not paying close enough attention. There was an estimated $2,000 in damage to the vehicle and about $1,000 in damage to the building. The second accident occurred at approximately 2:25 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Highway 4 and Chirma Road. Thirty-three-year-old Matthew M. Wilson of Omaha, Neb. was traveling northbound on Highway 4 in a 2015 GMC Canyon and stopped to make a left turn onto Chirma Road. Twenty-two-year-old Riley Keith Barr of Indianola was also northbound on 4, behind the Wilson vehicle, in a 2013 Ford F-350. Barr told authorities he did not see the stopped Wilson truck and struck it from behind. The responding deputies noted the skid marks covered a very short distance and Barr was cited for failure to stop in an assured cleared distance as well as for an open container. A 15-year-old male passenger in the Barr truck was transported by private vehicle for treatment of suspected minor injuries. There was an estimated $15,000 in damage to each of the trucks.
