The Carroll Tigers lost a tough match up against the 10-4 Bondurant-Farrar Blue Jays Tuesday night. The Bluejays would lead this game from start to finish starting with a 13-5 lead after the first quarter. Kennedy Lein would be the points leader in the first quarter, scoring four of the five points. The Tigers would do much better in the second quarter scoring 10 points, but would fall short of taking the lead before halftime trailing 27-15. 

 

The Blue Jays would continue to add to their 12 point halftime lead with 15 third quarter points and would lead 42-25. The Tigers would start a huge push for the Blue Jays lead by going on a 10-2 run in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to nine points. But, the first quarter performance would come back to spell disaster for the Tigers as the Blue Jays would run away with this game 49-35. Tigers Head Coach Katie Kock says her team wasn’t able to score consistently in the first half, but were able to get the game within nine points, but it was too late. 

 

Individually for the Tigers, Kennedy Lein would lead the scoring with 15 points. Ella Collison and Gabi Hammer would both have a good night scoring seven points each. The Tigers fall to 7-8 on the season as the Bondurant-Farrar Blue Jays improve to 11-4.

 

The Tigers are in action next when they welcome the Boone Toreadors to Carroll on Friday, February 5th.

The Kuemper Knights had a tough night defending against the Harlan Cyclones in their loss Tuesday night. Harlan shot lights out in this contest, scoring 20 points in each quarter besides the third quarter, 19 points. The Knights would leave the first quarter with eight points, and trail at halftime 48-18. Knights Head Coach Tyler Tryon says his team turned over the ball too much to begin with, but when they didn’t turn over the ball, they were scoring well. The Knights were able to rattle off 11 threes in this contest, five of those coming from Brooklyn Gifford.

 

The Cyclones would continue their dominant ways, scoring 19 points in the third quarter and 21 in the fourth quarter. The Knights kept fighting in the second half and were able to score better than in the first, scoring 16 in the third quarter and 14 in the fourth quarter. The Harlan Cyclones would walk away with this game by a score of 88-48.

 

Individually for the Knights, Brooklyn Gifford would end her night with 15 points, six rebounds, and two steals.

Paton Churdan at Glidden Ralston

The Paton Churdan Rockets were able to add another victory to their impressive season by defeating the Glidden Ralston Wildcats Tuesday night. The Rockets would start the night with a 3-0 run in the first quarter before the Wildcats would tie up the game at 5 points apiece. That would be the only tie in this contest as the Rockets jumped ahead with an 8-1 run late in the first quarter and would lead 19-9. The second quarter would see the Wildcats score six points while the Rockets would go on and score 16 to lead 35-15 at halftime.

In second half would be all Paton Churdan as they continued to score consistently behind senior Danielle Hoyle. Hoyle would end her night with a mighty 34 points and would lead her team to a 70-36 victory over the Wildcats. 

 

Hoyle continues to be impressive in her senior season, racking up 34 points and adding to an already impressive season scoring average of 21.9 points per game. Hannah Behrens would also come up big for the Rockets scoring 11 points. For the Wildcats, Gretchen Wallace would be her team’s scoring leader with 16 points in this contest. Morgan Koehler would also score well in this game with eight points on her night. The Rockets improve to 13-4 on the season as the Wildcats fall to 8-8.

 

The Glidden Ralston Wildcats will be on the road for their next game when they take on Madrid on Thursday, February 2nd. The Paton Churdan Rockets will be in action next when they take on the West Harrison Hawkeyes on Friday, February 5th.

IKM-Manning At Audubon

         Jaci Christensen became the All-Time leading rebounder in Audubon history as the Wheelers responded after falling behind 5-4 with a 8-0 run and would never trail again in picking up their 3rd straight win and 11th win overall. IKM-Manning fell down 4-0 to start the game but rallied to go up 5-4 but weren’t able to close the gap after falling down by 5 after the 1st quarter. Christensen surpassed Jenny Randeris as the Wheelers career leader in rebounds with her 4th rebound of the game. She broke the old record of 572 and finished with 11 rebounds to give her 580 for her career with another year left to play.

         The Wheelers extended their lead to 12 late in the 1st half but Alexa Ahrenholtz hit a layup and free throw just before half to cut it to a 9 point game at half. IKM-Manning had it down to 6 midway through the 3rd quarter and had 4 possessions with a chance to cut it further but couldn’t slip closer. They did pull within 5 in the 4th quarter but Audubon responded when Katelyn Nielsen extended it back to 6 and the Wheelers edged back up by 10.

         Aleah Hermansen helped set the tempo early and finished with a game high 21 points while Jaci Christensen had 18 points and 11 rebounds. Johanna Sauers was grabbing every rebound early for Audubon and finished with 8 rebounds.

         Bianca Cadwell and Bre Muhlbauer battled inside for IKM-Manning. Cadwell had 14 points and 9 rebounds while Muhlbauer finished with 11 points. Alexa Ahrenholtz added 9 points and 7 rebounds.

         Audubon improves to 11-7 overall and 9-5 in the Western Iowa Conference. They will host CAM Anita on 93.7 KKRL on Thursday. IKM-Manning falls to 5-10 overall and 5-8 in the Western Iowa. The Wolves host Coon Rapids Bayard on Thursday.

South Central Calhoun at SE Valley

The South Central Calhoun Titans were able to pick up a great win against conference rival Southeast Valley Tuesday night. The Titans and Jaguars would have a closely scored first quarter at 13-10. The Titans would pick up their defensive game in the second quarter by scoring 18 and not allowing the Jaguars to score in double digits. The Titans would take a 28-21 lead into halftime. Titans Head Coach Brady Dicks says his team didn’t shoot the ball well, but they were able to pick up the defensive game, especially in the second half. 

 

The second half would be up and down for both teams, as they would start off with a 5-4 third quarter in favor of the Titans. With a seven point lead, the Titans would use that momentum to pick up the pace in the final frame of play and dominate the Jaguars 16-8. The Titans win 49-33 and add another win to their already successful season. Coach Dicks says he’d like his team to handle the ball a bit better against Manson Northwest Webster on Friday and for the rest of the season going into playoffs next week. 

 

Individually for the Titans, Riley Batta would lead her team in points with 24 while also posting eight rebounds and three steals. Giving aid to the scoring game would be Emma Anderson who would end her night with a game high seven assists along with six points, one rebound, and two steals. The Titans improve to 12-5 as the Jaguars fall to 9-10.

 

The Titans are in action next when they welcome Manson Southwest Webster to town on Friday, February 5th.

The Coon Rapids Bayard Crusaders are now on a two game winning streak after taking down the West Harrison Hawkeyes Tuesday night. The Crusaders would start off the night quickly with nine steals and 20 points in the first quarter. Almost performing an encore, the Crusaders would score another 19 before halftime and lead the Hawkeyes 39-13. Crusaders Head Coach Kaitlyn McAlister says her team was able to run their offense efficiently and run different defenses in the first half. 

 

The Crusaders would continue to be impressive in the second half scoring high and not allowing the Hawkeyes to do anything. Going 13-2 in the third quarter, the Crusaders would hold a 52-15 lead heading into the fourth quarter. All of the players for the Crusaders would play in this game and would play for the majority of the final minutes in this game. The Hawkeyes would win the fourth quarter battle going 14-4, but the Crusaders won the war winning 56-29. Coach McAlister says with two games remaining, she’d like to see her team continue to take care of the ball, and limit their turnovers.

 

Brynn Bass would lead the Crusaders in this victory with 22 points, eight steals, three assists, and two rebounds. Mia Leighty would also have a great night with 11 points, three rebounds, three steals, one assist, and one block. McAlister was happy to have eight of her eleven players score in this game. The Crusaders improve to 6-8 as West Harrison fall to 0-17.

 

The Crusaders are in action next when they travel to Manning to take on the IKM-Manning Wolves on Thursday, February 4th.

The Ar-We-Va Rockets lost a heartbreaker of a game to the Exira-EHK Spartans Tuesday night after a tough second half. The Rockets would start off the first quarter leading 13-9 against the undefeated Spartans. The Rockets continued to score well in the second quarter, but the Spartans would start to come back, eventually tying up the game at halftime at 19.

 

The Spartans would start to mount their comeback by going up by 12 in the third quarter. Rockets Head Coach Jeremy Smith says his team missed some floaters in the third, but they would start to play harder at the end of the third and beginning of the fourth. Up 35-23, the Spartans would go 12-0 in the beginning of the fourth quarter and push ahead to win 55-34 and stay undefeated. 

 

Jadeyn Smith and Maggie Ragaller would both get double digit scores in this game, with 11 and 12 respectively. Smith would end her night with a 11 point, 10 rebound double-double. The Rockets fall to 3-14 on the season as the Exira-EHK Spartans improve to 18-0.

 

The Rockets are in action next when they welcome the LoMa Panthers to Westside on Thursday, February 4th.

While coming back strong in the fourth quarter, the East Sac County Raiders were unable to pull back from a 10 point deficit against the Pocahontas Area Indians. The Raiders would keep a close game after the first quarter, being down 8-7. The Indians would start to pull ahead in the second and take a five point lead into halftime at 23-18. 

 

The Indians would double their lead in the third quarter and enter the final quarter with the 37-27 lead. The Raiders would start to mount a small comeback by cutting the 10 point Indian lead down to four before it was too late. The Indiains would walk away with the 48-44 final score in a thrilling fourth quarter. Raiders Head Coach Jason Phillips says in that last quarter, his team was able to amp up the intensity, shoot better, and got some stops, but just feel a little shy of the victory. 

 

Individually for the Raiders, Mary Bontrager would end with a team high 15 points along with three rebounds and two assists. Bree Boeckman would also have a good night for the Raiders, posting 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and one steal. The Raiders fall to 5-11 on the season as the Pocahontas Area Indians improve to 9-8. 

 

The East Sac Raiders are in action next when they travel to West Bend Mallard to take on the Wolverines on Thursday, February 4th.
