Carroll At Ballard

Carroll 59

Ballard 58                   (OT)

The Carroll Tigers showed a lot of resolve on Friday night as they struggled early on the defensive end which hindered their offense and they found themselves behind the 3rd ranked Ballard Bombers in a battle of number 2 vs number 3. Carroll didn’t want to get beat inside and the Ballard guards came out shooting the ball well. As all good teams do the Tigers adjusted at halftime and rallied in the 4th quarter to take the lead late on a bucket by Kaleb Booth. The Bombers hit a shot to tie the game and then had a chance to win it but the shot didn’t go and the game went to overtime.

Carroll took the early lead in overtime on an offensive rebound by Kelin Jones who hit the, and one free throw to put Carroll up 3. Ballard knocked down a 3 to tie the game and Carroll set up a play for Kaleb Booth again. He drove the lane and was fouled with 1.9 seconds left. Booth missed the first free throw but knocked down the second one to give Carroll a 1 point lead. Ballard shot from half court at the buzzer hit the rim but didn’t go in and Carroll pulled out a 1 point win to move to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the Raccoon River Conference.

This was a big road win for Carroll who was swept by Ballard last season and lost badly at Ballard. The Tigers didn’t panic down 20-12 after the 1st quarter and down 38-26 at half. Head Coach Randy Bissen says even though they played a little better in the 2nd half they were still down double digits early in the 4th. Several players came up with critical plays including Colby Christensen who hit a couple key shots and Kelin Jones did a nice job off the bench.

Christensen led the balanced attack with 16 points while Jones finished with 13 points, Kaleb Booth added 11 points and 5 assists and Nick Macke had 10 points. Tory Feldman had 8 rebounds and 4 steals.

Carroll will host Bondurant Farrar on Tuesday before they head into the break.
