Bass Manages To Balance Sense Of Duty With Sense Of Humor

After working for the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office for 43 years, 24 of those as Sheriff, Doug Bass will be taking off his badge and entering retirement effective on Tuesday, March 15. Over all of these years, Bass has been reliable and consistent, managing to arrive at work within about a three-minute time span each and every morning. His consistency has been a trait greatly appreciated by the community and his staff, but another thing that his deputies’ say they will miss with his retirement is his sense of humor. Deputy Tom Franzen said he can take a joke as well as doling them out.

No less than three of his team, in addition to Chief Deputy Ken Pingrey, also made mention of the fact that if you were to get caught speeding in Carroll County, you were really lucky if it was Bass that pulled you over.

And even though Doug will no longer be a daily fixture at the Sheriff’s Office, everyone knows he will still be a highly-visible favorite in Carroll and throughout the county. As Franzen said, he doesn’t have plans on going anywhere else.

A celebration for Sheriff Bass’ retirement and his 65th birthday are taking place today, until 4 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office in the lower level of the Carroll County Courthouse.
