The paperwork has been completed and the city of Jefferson, in partnership with Region XII Council of Governments, has submitted the application for a $1 million Community Development Block Grant. The grant, which is a 50/50 match, partners the city and building owners in between 16 and 20 blight and façade improvement projects. Last November, the city hired Franks Design Group from a pool of five architectural firms up for consideration. They are working with property owners to find out what they would like to see done to their building’s front façade while also restoring the building back to its historical accuracy. Grant awards are expected to be announced in mid-May, and if Jefferson receives the Block Grants, construction could begin in 2017.
