April is National Donate Life Month, and Iowa donor organizations are encouraging residents to consider registering as an organ, tissue, and eye donor. The Iowa Donor Network and Iowa Lions Eye Bank are partnering this month to encourage people to consider adding their names to the list of those willing to give the gift of life. An estimated 170+ million Americans are already registered as organ, tissue, and eye donors, and the monthlong campaign highlights stories of hope, celebrates transplant recipients, and recognizes the generosity of donor families. The Iowa Donor Network serves as the state’s sole organ procurement organization and is one of 55 federally certified nonprofit groups in the nation’s donation network. Iowa Lions Eye Bank focuses primarily on cornea donation and transplantation, helping restore sight through donated tissue. Iowans can register as donors by logging on to www.iowadonornetwork.org and find local events through participating organizations during April.
