GLL Parish Launches Food-Packing Fundraising Campaign

A local parish made up of three area churches is working together to raise money and recruit volunteers to help fight food insecurity through a community meal-packing effort. The Glidden-Lanesboro-Lohrville United Methodist Parish has launched a two-phase campaign to provide 1,500 meals through Midwest Mission, which is based in Jefferson. The first phase focuses on raising at least $3,000 by May 15 to purchase supplies for “Blessing Bags.” Each bag costs about $2 to produce and contains a high-protein meal that feeds up to six people. Parish organizers say the fundraising goal must be met before bulk supplies can be ordered. Donations of any amount are being accepted from local businesses, organizations, and individuals. Contributions can be mailed to Glidden United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 449, Glidden, 51443, with the designation “GLL FOOD” in the memo line. Once the goal has been reached, the parish plans to host a community meal-packing event from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 1 at the Glidden church, which will provide 9,000 meals for people struggling with food insecurity.  For more information on donating or registering for a volunteer shift, contact Alyson Schroeder at 515-391-0882 or Mary Early at 712-210-4450.
