Lake City Approved For $4.8 Million USDA Wastewater Loan

The City of Lake City has been approved for a $4.8 million low-interest loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program to finance significant infrastructure improvements. The announcement came this (Monday) morning from USDA Iowa State Director Mike Sexton. He says, “Every day at USDA, we are working to ensure that Iowans have access to the resources they need to thrive. Thanks to the leadership of President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, projects like these are being built to enhance infrastructure and expand growth opportunities for rural Iowa communities across the state.” Lake City will use the funds to line sewer mains, seal manholes, maintain existing lagoons, and replace the city’s aging lift station. Once completed, the infrastructure improvements will substantially reduce infiltration and inflow to the city’s systems and facilitate compliance with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) licensing requirements. Funding for two other projects in Iowa was also announced Monday morning. The City of Allerton received a $27,000 grant for a wastewater system engineering report, and the City of Randolph received a $442,000 loan for water system infrastructure improvements.
