A Carroll man has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison for his involvement in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa, 52-year-old Paul Diamond Sanchez was sentenced yesterday (Monday) to 78 months in prison after pleading guilty in November to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Prosecutors say evidence presented during plea and sentencing hearings showed Sanchez and others distributed at least 35 grams of pure methamphetamine in the Carroll area between July 2024 and May 2025. On two occasions in the summer of 2024, Sanchez sold more than 25 grams of the drug to an individual cooperating with law enforcement. Sanchez was also found with more than nine grams of methamphetamine during a traffic stop in October 2024, and he later admitted that he intended to sell. Following completion of his sentence, Sanchez will be required to serve four years of supervised release. Sanchez remains in U.S. Marshals Service custody pending transfer to a federal facility. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Manning Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) laboratory assisted in the investigation.
