SCC Holds First Public Hearing For FY27 Budget With Proposed Tax Rate Decreasing

The South Central Calhoun (SCC) Community School District is hosting the public hearing for the proposed property tax rate for fiscal year (FY) 2027 next week, with a slight decrease expected. The public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, March 24 at 6 p.m. in the district’s media center located at the high school in Lake City. For FY27, the district is proposing a maximum proposed tax rate of $11.21876 per $1,000 of assessed taxable valuation, a 0.73 decrease from the $11.29213. While the rate is decreasing, the proposed levied dollars in the general fund, management, Instruction Support Levy (ISL) and the others that make up the grand total will be increasing, with total proposed dollars equaling $8,189,099, or an approximate 9.9 percent increase from FY26 to FY27. Any resident within the district with concerns or questions is encouraged to voice them at the public hearing which is again scheduled for next Tuesday at 6 p.m.
