U.S Senator Chuck Grassley Expects Progress To Be Made For Renewal Of Farm Bill This Year

U.S Senator Chuck Grassley says progress is being made in Congress for a new farm bill, but could potentially see more stalling in the Senate. Around eight years ago was when the last updated farm bill was approved, with that bill receiving two extensions. It has been rebranded as the Farm, Food and National Security Act of 2026, but Grassley says earlier this month, the U.S House Agriculture Committee passed the renewal of the latest draft.

Grassley says once passed in the House it moves to the Senate, that that is where the stalling was taking place, but is hopefully this time will be different.

Grassley says over the decades he has been in Congress; he has never seen as much of a struggle between the party lines to get this legislation renewed and passed.

The farm bill was first introduced in 1933 in response to the Great Depression and Dust Bowl to support farmers by raising crop prices. Grassley says while it has been evolved into a much bigger piece over the years, a good portion is still centered around that.

Grassley made his comments on Monday during his weekly Capitol Hill Report with Iowa media outlets.
