Iowa taxpayers are being encouraged to review upcoming budget notices and participate in local hearings as taxing entities consider finalizing their Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 levies and budgets. Iowans for Tax Relief, a lobby group dedicated to lowering taxes, notes many residents have or will soon receive required public hearing notices from their city, county, and school district outlining proposed budgets. However, those notices can be difficult to understand and often do not clearly show how changes could affect individual tax bills. To help address that concern, the organization has developed a residential property tax calculator that estimates tax bills. The tool does not include tax credits or exemptions and is intended to provide general guidance rather than exact figures. A link to ITR’s online tool is included below.
