Greene County Board Of Supervisors Approve Resolution To Enter 28E Agreement For County Attorney With Sac And Calhoun County

The Greene County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution to enter into an Intergovernmental Agreement with Sac and Calhoun County for a shared County Attorney Office. During the supervisors meeting this (Monday) morning, Sac and Calhoun County Attorney Benjamin Smith presented the idea to the supervisors to provide stable and experienced prosecution of criminal offenses in the area. Smith says that rural counties are experiencing what is called a rural legal desert, specifically with a shortage of prosecutors and licensed attorney. Per the 28E agreement, one part time county attorney, two full time assist county attorney positions would be shared between the three counties, which equates to a total combined compensation of $588,000. One assistant county attorney would be housed in Greene County with the other in Calhoun County. Greene County would be responsible for 38 percent of the salaries, which is $223,440. Smith says this agreement would save the county approximately $32,000. The supervisors unanimously approved of the resolution and will enter into the 28E agreement with Calhoun and Sac County for the Multicounty County Attorney Office.
