Work could begin as early as next week on nearly seven miles of planned surface grinding in Carroll County. Earlier this month, the supervisors approved a $659,000 bid from Diamond Surface Inc. of Rogers, Minn. to level the surface of Hawthorne Avenue between U.S. Highway 30 and Halbur, and a mile stretch of Delta Avenue north of Iowa Highway 141. County Engineer Zac Andersen says the contractors approached him last week requesting contract approval, as they are interested in getting started as soon Monday, March 23.
He says the only downside to the contractor moving so quickly is that it isn’t clear yet where work will begin.
County officials have a pre-construction meeting slated for later this week, and Andersen says the county will have a better idea then. Regardless of which section they start with, the plan is to completely finish one before moving to the other. The supervisors requested that Andersen notify the public through the relatively new TextMyGov system, given how quickly the projects are moving. He indicates he will use the new system, along with the county’s usual notification methods. The supervisors voted unanimously at this (Monday) morning’s meeting to approve the contract with Diamond Surface Inc. As it stands, motor traffic will still be able to travel while crews are on site, but pilot cars are likely to cause delays for people who frequently use these routes.
