Theresa was born on July 8, 1939, in Harlan, IA, and she was the daughter of Anthony (Tony) & Cecilia (Foxhoven) Grund.  She grew up in Portsmouth, Iowa. Theresa started her waitressing career in the early 60’s, at the White Star Cafe, in Harlan. This is where she met her future husband, Bob Schroer.  2 years later, they were married on June 2, 1962, where it was a running joke that they didn’t realize it was 6-2-62.  The family bought a house in Carroll in 1968, where they raised four children: Julie, Cathy, Gary, and David.  In 1969, Bob joined the Carroll Fire Department and Theresa became the unofficial historian, as well as a member of the Carroll Fire Department Firebelles.  Another passion of Theresa’s was decorating cakes.  She made and decorated many birthday, anniversary, & also wedding cakes.  Her last job she held brought her full circle as a waitress at Tony’s Restaurant, until they closed the doors.  However, her favorite job was being Grandma to 10 and Great Grandma to 12, with a new arrival in August.  In 2003, Theresa and Bob started being snowbirds in Mesa, Arizona and were excited when they purchased a place in 2016 in Apache Junction.
Theresa is survived by her husband Bob of Carroll; three children: Julie (Dan) Gore of Carroll and their sons, Joseph (Veronica) Kramer of Daphne, AL, & Tyler (Sophie) Gore of Camp Lejeune, NC; Gary (Cheri’) Schroer of Glidden and their daughters, Emily (Ryan) Mohr of Carroll & Jessica (Jordan Otool) Schroer of Carroll; David (Karen) Schroer of Bondurant and their children Shaun Billmeier of Ankeny, Lindsey (Sydney) Slater of Des Moines; & Chris Schroer of Bondurant; and Son-in-law, John Toms of Glidden and children, Susan (Arthur Mayfield) Toms of Perry; Michelle (Stephen) Rogers of Glidden; & Bobby Toms of Emmetsburg.  Her sister’s daughter, Pam (Brad) Borchers of Sioux City; Sisters-in-law Marilyn (Don) Porter of Sioux Falls, SD; JoAnn (Paul) Mell of Norway; Linda (Roger) Prussing of Ida Grove; and Brother-in-law, Bruce Williams of Villisca as well as many nieces and nephews.
Theresa was preceded in death by her daughter, Cathy Toms in 2025; her sister, Rita Nepple in 1983; her nephew, Charles Nepple, Jr in 2020; her parents, Anthony (Tony) & Cecilia Grund; her sister-in-law, Donna Williams in 2018; and her parents-in-law, Anthony (Tony) & Florence Schroer.
