A Ralston man was taken into custody last week for alleged theft charges and violating parole. According to Carroll County District Court records, 44-year-old Barrett Lee Poole allegedly failed to return a trailer valued at over $6,000 to the owner, after being requested multiple times to do so. Authorities say Poole was in possession of the trailer from Jan. 26 until it was located by law enforcement on Feb. 12 with significant damage. Poole is also facing violation of parole after he was sentenced to ten years for three controlled substance violations for possession of methamphetamine out of Story County in 2018. In the parole violation report, it states Poole admitted to use methamphetamine, failed to report the termination of his employment, violating curfew requirements and no longer participating in the recommended substance use treatment program. Poole is facing one count second degree theft, a class D felony, and a violation of parole. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 19 at the Carroll County Courthouse. If convicted, Poole may face a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison for the theft charge, and the original sentence of ten years for the previous convictions may be imposed for violating the terms of parole.
