The Sac County Sheriff’s Office is fundraising to bring a new police K9 officer to the department. In 2025, the sheriff’s department retired K9 Remo due to medical reasons after serving four years in Sac County after some time with the Navy Seals. The United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) has awarded a $7,500 grant to kickstart the fundraising efforts, but more is needed for the purchase, training, equipment, and care for the canine and the team. Anyone wanting to help with the cause is asked to drop off donations at the Sac County Sheriff’s Office or mail it to the department at 100 NW State St. Suite 7, Sac City, Iowa 50583. Checks need to be made out to the Sac County Sheriff’s Office with “K9 Program” in the memo line.
