The Carroll County Board of Supervisors awarded several spring and summer construction project contracts at this (Monday) morning’s meeting and were pleased to find they came in nearly $180,000 under initial estimates. County Engineer Zac Andersen says the first piece is a combined six miles of concrete diamond grinding.
Two contractors bid on the project, and both bids were within a percent of each other. The project was originally projected to cost around $791,000, but Diamond Surface Inc., out of Rogers, Minn., came in well under at $659,287.52. Andersen says diamond grinding is a good way for the county to improve road conditions without the expense of full replacement.
Another contract that was awarded was for the replacement of a box culvert on Sycamore Avenue in southeastern Carroll County. This project was initially estimated to run around $205,000, but Andersen says a competitive market helped keep bids low.
PCI Contractors Inc.’s bid came in at 160,507.50. The supervisors voted unanimously to award the contracts to the two low bidders. While not huge projects, both the diamond grinding and culvert replacement are anticipated to take several weeks. The work is scheduled for the upcoming construction season, and firm dates will be set as the contractors work out their schedules.
