Several local fire departments were dispatched this (Saturday) afternoon to the report of a large fire west of Carroll. The initial call came into the Carroll County Communications Center around 1 p.m. of a report that stalk bales stored south of the intersection of U.S. Highway 30 and Ivy Avenue had ignited. At least four departments, including the Carroll, Arcadia, Breda, and Halbur Fire Departments, have responded to assist with the fire. Due to the fire’s size, tanker trucks are drawing large volumes of water from the Carroll system. Officials say customers may briefly notice discolored water, typically a rusty or brownish tinge, flowing from their faucets as the higher-than-normal flow rate disturbs sediment in the mains. The discoloration will clear on its own, but residents are advised to postpone laundry until the water has cleared. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more information on the fire in upcoming newscasts.
