The Carroll County Board of Supervisors will meet on Monday to consider setting a public hearing date for a new hog confinement northwest of Halbur. The supervisors convene at 9 a.m. on Monday, March 2, in the supervisors’ meeting room at the Carroll County Courthouse. They open with a request from a producer to construct a confinement feeding operation in Section 1 of Washington Township. The county’s participation in the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) master matrix system for confinements requires hearings such as this one for approval. The board will then hear from County Engineer Zac Andersen, who will review bids for upcoming diamond grinding and culvert replacement projects. The county’s employee health insurance plan is partially self-funded, and supervisors will consider increasing the policy’s stop-loss limit. Historically, claims for the county rarely reach the current $50,000 limit, and raising the limit could save premium costs at the risk of moderately increasing the county’s exposure. Other items on the March 2 agenda include a discussion of adding an IT Department staff member and manure management annual updates. Monday’s meeting is open to the public and will also be live-streamed via the county’s YouTube channel. Links to the agenda and video are included below.
