Yesterday (Tuesday), the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration (FSPA) from La Crosse, Wis. were presented with the Good Neighbor Award from the Carroll Chamber of Commerce Banquet earlier this month. St. Anthony Regional Hospital Foundation Director Sarah Foley presented the award to the Sisters as they were unable to attend the banquet. During her nomination speech, Foley said FSPA didn’t just get started in Carroll, they kept going, for over a century.

FSPA was first asked to help in the late 1800’s, with the establishment of a Catholic parish school in Carroll, expanding to the surrounding areas paving the way to what would be Kuemper Catholic school system. In 1903, FSPA assisted with health services with St. Anthony Regional Hospital, then much later in 1977 with New Hope Village. Foley says the Sisters are especially deserving of the award not for the scale of the impact they have had on the Carroll community, but the consistency they have displayed throughout it all.

Sister Joanne Moeller says it’s wonderful to be recognized, even though that was never the intention of all their work.

Sister Rose Elsbernd echoes Sister Moeller’s words, but emphasizes that it wasn’t just FSPA that educated and provided health services, but multiple people together all serving one mission.
