A former Carroll County paramedic has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to tampering with a fentanyl container. According to court documents from the U.S District Court for the Northern District of Iowa, 53-year-old Teresa Marie Johnson of Manilla was facing charges in Carroll County for unlawfully obtaining fentanyl while working as a critical care paramedic between October 2024 and February 2025. The charges out of Carroll County were dropped and she faced two federal charges for tampering with a consumer product and attempting to acquire a controlled substance by deception and subterfuge. She entered into a plea agreement with prosecution in September, pleading guilty for tampering with the fentanyl container by removing the label, with the second charge being dismissed. She was sentenced to 30 months in prison on Feb. 17, along with a $5,000 fine. Following her release, Johnson will be placed on mandatory supervised release for two years. There is no parole in the federal system.
