The start of spring is less than a month away, and Carroll County Conservation is welcoming the changing of the seasons with a jam-packed March schedule. They’ll open the full slate of activities on Tuesday, March 3, with a full moon hike. Participants will gather outside the Swan Lake Conservation Education Center to join the hour-long guided hike, which begins at 7 p.m. That same week, teens ages 13 to 18 can join Teen Game Night on Friday, March 6, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., for snacks and nature-themed games. The March meeting of the OWLS, or Older Wiser Learning Seniors, will start at noon on Wednesday, March 11, with a focus on nature journaling. The next day, Thursday, March 12, conservation staff head to the Carroll Public Library for the 10:30 a.m. educational program, titled “Magnificent Mushrooms.” Also on March 12 is Carroll County Conservation’s AstroCamp, which will have kindergarten through fourth-grade students learning all about space exploration from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Staff is hosting a hunter education field day on Friday, March 13, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. These courses are required for youth seeking an Iowa hunting license. Carroll County Conservation will round out its March schedule with its Pipsqueaks program on March 16 with the Buds and Boots hikes, offered at 10 a.m. or 5 p.m., a March 19 program where women 21 years old and up can learn all about archery while enjoying a bottle of wine with friends, and the March 25 children’s story time in Coon Rapids. Registration is required for some, but not all of these programs, and can be completed by contacting the Conservation Education Center at 712-792-4614 or by email at kbieret@carrollcountyiowa.org.
