Jim Carlin, a former state senator and candidate for the Iowa GOP’s nomination for the U.S. Senate seat that is on the ballot this November, is hosting a public town hall in Carroll tomorrow (Friday). Carlin, who was born in Massachusetts, served in the U.S. Army from 1983 to 1985 before moving to Iowa to open his law practice. In 2016, he was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in Iowa’s 6th District, but served for less than a year, as he won a special election for the Senate District 3 seat, remaining in that position until his term ended in 2023. Carlin previously ran against incumbent Sen. Chuck Grassley in the 2022 Republican primary but lost by nearly 90,0000. Carlin will be available to take questions from the public beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday at the Carroll Pizza Ranch. Carlin and Iowa Second District U.S. Congresswoman Ashley Hinson are the current frontrunners for the GOP nomination for the seat soon to be vacated by Sen. Joni Ernst, who announced earlier this year she would not be seeking reelection. Hinson made stops in the listening area earlier this week in the listening area, including a tour of the St. Anthony Regional Cancer Center, but her visits were closed to the public and the press. Two Democratic candidates are still actively campaigning for their party’s nomination: State Sen. Zach Wahls and State Rep. Josh Turek.
