Iowa Congresswoman, Ashley Hinson (R-Marion) met with hospital staff and toured the St. Anthony Cancer Center on Tuesday on her campaign trail to secure a seat for the U.S Senate. Hinson, who currently serves District 2 for the Iowa House of Representatives, says being able to visit places like this across Iowa showcases just how important healthcare, especially in rural areas truly is.
She says it’s the governments job as federal partners to hospitals to help to solve the problems that she is continuously hearing about.
Following the tour, Hinson met with hospital staff for a closed meeting not available to the public, to discuss how she would address the issues if elected as U.S Senator. Hinson announced her bid to run for the open seat just hours after current U.S Senator Joni Ernst informed publicly that she would not be seeking re-election. Hinson has been endorsed by Ernst, President Donald Trump along with other Republicans in Congress and Iowa. She is going against former state Senator Jim Carlin for the GOP side with State Sen. Zach Wahls (D-Coralville) and Rep. Josh Turek (D-Council Bluffs) as Democratic nominees.
