The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education has two public hearings, initial offers for negotiations, retirement incentive and budget reduction plans all on the agenda for Thursday’s nights board meeting. The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. at Adams Elementary School with two public hearings. One being the 2025-26 budget amendment for the transportation facility, since most of the work was completed in Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 when planned for FY25. The second public hearing is on the 2026-27 school calendar which Superintendent Dr. Casey Berlau says will have one change that staff and parents will need to adjust for if approved.
If approved, every Friday would be an early out for all grade levels by 90 minutes. Berlau says next on the agenda is opening offers for negotiations from Carroll Education Association (CEA) and potentially Carroll Education Support Association (CESA) if the group is ready to present.
The board will also review an update on the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) in regards to the targeted status received from the Iowa Department of Education last fall on the school performance report. A few bids, agreements and updated job description will also be reviewed and potentially approved during the meeting. Berlau says two new plans, retirement incentive and a budget reduction plan will be presented to the board, along with the staffing plan again for official approval.
The meeting will end with the setting of the public hearing date for the proposed property tax rate and a closed session per Iowa Code 21.5.1.i for a routine superintendent evaluation. The CCSD Board of Education meeting is open to the public and all are welcome to attend starting at 5 p.m. at Adams Elementary School.
