One of the most coveted awards presented each year at the Carroll Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet is the Heritage Business Award, which recognizes businesses that help shape and define the community. Two recipients were named this year, including Performance Tire & Service. John Ryan, who emceed the evening’s program, describes what makes a Heritage Business.
Performance Tire & Service, formerly Paul & Wayne’s, began in 1947 through a partnership between Wayne Tiefenthaler and Paul Broich. Wayne’s son, Kim Tiefenthaler, took over the business after his passing in 1977 and ran it with his wife, Kimberly, who also served as the Chamber and Carroll County Growth Partnership (CCGP) Executive Director from 2021 to 2026. She will be retiring from that position at the end of March. As the name implies, Performance Tire & Service has been one of the must-know shops for motorists in the area for nearly 80 years. The Tiefenthalers were surprised by the award when their children, Lacey Wolf, Mitchell Tiefenthaler, and Shaela Eckard, stepped out to introduce them as the recipients and shared the couple’s dedication to the business, the community, and their family.
Kim Tiefenthaler says they are blessed to have operated a business, raised their children, and been a part of a community like Carroll.
Mid-Iowa Insurance and Real Estate was also named a Heritage Business at last week’s chamber banquet, and Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more from them in upcoming newscasts.
