Four teachers from the listening area have been awarded a Agriculture in the Classroom (AITC) Teacher Supplement Grant to help expand and support hands-on learning to better understand food, farming and natural resources. Carroll High School Social Studies teacher, Amy Madsen, Kuemper Catholic St. Lawerence Center 4-6th Grade Resource, Gene McBride, Schaller Crestland Elementary Librarian Angelic Henningson, and Vocational Ag teacher Tieryn Tucker from Denison Community High School will all receive $200 to be used purchase materials, bring in guest speakers, field trips, and other real-world experiences through integrated agriculture lessons. Across 50 counties in Iowa, 118 awardees are receiving an AITC Teacher Supplement grant, with 49 of them being selected for the first time. IALF-funded projects for this spring include farm robotics, nutrition and culinary education, lifecycles of animals and crops, pollinators, agriculture history plus more.
