Several Large Group Speech Participants Earn “I” Rating From State, With Seven Nominations Selected For All-State Festival

Large group speech teams from several local schools earned high marks at state speech this past weekend with seven nominations for All State Speech. Audubon High School had five groups participate at West Des Moines Valley High School, with three earning an excellent rating in performances of musical theatre, short film and acting. The short film, Scopophobia, is advancing to All-State to perform. The remaining schools in the listening area went north to Cherokee. IKM-Manning had all eight teams earn either a straight 1 rating or an overall 1 rating in categories of radio/tv news, short film, solo mime, and reader’s theatre. The three short films, radio broadcasting and television news for the Wolves have earned the designation to perform at All-State Speech. Coon Rapids-Bayard (CR-B) had both groups in short film and choral reading earn an overall Division 1 rating. East Sac County (ESC) had three students participate in both radio broadcasting and readers theatre and the performances were awarded an excellent rating. Ar-We-Va had straight 1 ratings from all three performances, short film, improv and reader’s theater with the group improv to be honored at All-State Speech as a non-performing piece. South Central Calhoun (SCC) had four students created a short film, earning straight I’s, designating an excellent rating. All State Speech for large group will take place in Ames at Iowa State University on Feb. 21.
