Large group speech teams from Kuemper Catholic and Carroll competed in the Iowa High School Speech Association’s (IHSSA) state contest this past weekend, eight of them earning top marks from the judges. Carroll High School (CHS) sent eight teams, and four received an “excellent” rating, including the news broadcasting, ensemble acting, and short film categories. Kuemper Catholic High School (KHS) sent six events to state, and four earned a “I,” including multiple ensemble acting groups and one in the short film category. One of CHS’s ensemble acting groups, “Playwriting 101: The Rooftop Scene,” featuring Sarah Ryherd, Jaia Strong, and Brooke Stanford, also received a non-performing invite to attend the All State Festival on Feb. 21 in Ames for their outstanding entry.
