Cheryl Grosvenor of Lake City

Cheryl Lynnette Grosvenor, age 75, of Lake City, IA, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City, IA.  Cheryl was born on October 21, 1950, to parents Clifton and Betty (Thibadeau) Cavanaugh in Belle Plaine, IA.  She grew up with her family in Clarks Grove, MN, where she attended grade school and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1969.  After graduation, Cheryl continued her education at Morningside College in Sioux City, IA, from 1969 to 1973.  She then received her master’s degree from UNI in 1991 in early childhood education.

On June 5, 1971, Cheryl was united in marriage to Dwight F. Grosvenor at the United Methodist Church in Albert Lea.  This union was blessed with two daughters: Jessica and Rebekah.  Cheryl was a teacher for nearly 4 decades. She taught various ways and grade levels throughout her career, but teaching the little ones brought her the most joy. She taught until her retirement in the spring of 2010 from Southern Cal Schools.  Cheryl enjoyed quilting, reading, genealogy, collecting teddy bears, and substitute teaching.  Her favorite hobby was spending countless hours baking, sewing, and playing games with her granddaughters, Gracie and Ryann.  Cheryl’s faith was at the center of her life.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lanesboro, IA. She had been an active member of United Methodist Women and had been a Sunday School teacher.  More recently, she had been a member of the praise band.  Cheryl and Dwight also loved to travel across the United States and abroad.  Most of all, Cheryl cherished her family and was the favorite Aunt to Andrea, Jamie, and Mary.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Rev. Dwight F. Grosvenor of Lake City, IA; children: Jessica Lyn (Grosvenor) Nardini (Mike) and Rebekah Suzanne (Grosvenor) Hungate (Mark); grandchildren: Gracie Renee Hungate and Ryann Gosvenor Hungate; siblings: Clifton Calvin Jr. Cavanaugh (Deb), Bradly James Cavanaugh; brother-in-law Jim Grosvenor (Martha); nephew Jamie (Sebrina) Grosvenor; nieces: Andrea (Grosvenor) Daniel (Jason) and Mary (Grosvenor) Cuzzort (Greg).

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Betty Lou Cavanaugh, and parents-in-law Frank and Dorothy Grosvenor.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the Lanesboro United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Monday at the Lampe and Powers Funeral Home. Burial will take place in the Lanesboro Cemetery in rural Lanesboro, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to The Kids Spot in Lake City, Iowa.
