Congressman Randy Feenstra (R-Iowa) and one of the GOP’s gubernatorial candidates met with constituents Friday afternoon in Carroll as the race to the primaries is on. A group gathered inside one of the back dining areas at Pizza Ranch while Feenstra gave his speech on his campaign run. Carroll Broadcasting held a candidate profile interview prior to the event and the story can be found linked with this one online. Feenstra then opened up the floor for questions or concerns that individuals would like to see address. The first question raised was why Feenstra was looking to run for governor instead of remaining in congress.
One of the most controversial debate right now in Iowa is the use of eminent domain for a carbon capture pipeline. The question asked was where does Feenstra stand on the issue which he says he has always been against eminent domain.
Other questions were raised on healthcare, especially Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements, how he stands out from the other Republican nominations and from front-runner for the democratic party, Rob Sand. One constituent asked whether Feenstra was for or against freezing property taxes for seniors 65 years and older and if so, how he plans to do lower them.
The other candidates seeking the GOP’s gubernatorial nomination include District 43 State Rep. Eddie Andrews, former District 91 Rep. Brad Sherman, former Iowa Department of Administrative Services Director Adam Steen, and Iowa farmer and businessman Zach Lahn. Iowa Primaries are scheduled for June 2.
