Charter Oak Man Dies In Grain Bin Accident Earlier Thursday Morning

A Charter Oak man had died following being trapped in a grain bin earlier this (Thursday) morning. According to the Crawford County Emergency Management, a report came in at approximately 9:53 a.m. of an individual, later identified as 83-year-old Robert Kroll, was trapped inside a grain bin near Charter Oak and a county-wide all call was issued. Once first responders were on scene, a bystander confirmed that Kroll was still inside and no contact has been made. Emergency services began cutting access holes into the side of the bin to remove the grain. A request for an air ambulance was made while rescue operations continued until Kroll was extricated from the bin. Medical personnel on scene immediately conducted life saving measures but Kroll was pronounced deceased. Several agencies responded, including Crawford County Emergency Management, Sheriff’s Office and Crawford County Memorial Hospital Ambulance, Charter Oak, Denison, Deloit, Dow City, Manilla, Ricketts, Schleswig, Vail, Dunlap, and Woodbine Fire Departments, LifeFlight 3 out of Audubon and Anderson’s Ethanol with an additional grain vacuum.
