A Jefferson man was taken into custody earlier this week on allegedly possessing illegal child sexual abuse material. According to Greene County District Court records, 61-year-old Christopher Ciesla of rural Jefferson was reported to have several photographs of depictions of sexual material that involved minors on a Google Drive. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of the situation by the CyberTipline from the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children and the Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and executed a search warrant on Ciesla’s home back on Dec. 8, 2025. Authorities say when questioned on the photos, Ciesla admitted to possessing them, but when he received a notification from Google that he violated Iowa law in July 2025, his account was locked and he cleared the computer’s hard drives. Ciesla was taken into custody on Tuesday and was released after posting a $25,000 surety bond. He is facing five counts of purchase/possess depictions of minor in sex act first offense, a class D felony. A class D felony in Iowa carries a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison and $10,245 in fines. He is scheduled back at the Greene County Courthouse for an initial appearance on Feb. 4.
