Carroll County Officials Discuss Unusually High Flat Tire Rate For Rural Residents Near Breda

Gravel-Road-2

Carroll County officials are hoping to find a solution to an unusually high number of flat tires reported by rural residents south of Breda. District 2 Supervisor Mike Andersen says he’s been contacted multiple times by different residents who frequently travel on 140th Street and expressed concerns about how often they need to replace or repair their tires. The county previously ran its truck-mounted magnetic sweeper and collected a large number of foreign materials, primarily nails, along that stretch of road. Andersen suggests that the secondary roads department establish a baseline.

County Engineer Zac Andersen indicated that staff would collect the requested data and report back to the supervisors when it is available. He says that even if they determine there is a higher-than-usual foreign body incidence rate, it would be difficult for the county to identify a specific source.

County officials are not alleging any wrongdoing. However, they have identified a potential problem for rural residents in the area of the county and are hoping to find a solution that will at least alleviate some of the issues.
