A combined 15 teams from the Carroll and Kuemper Catholic large-group speech programs are advancing to the state contest after earning top marks at districts this past weekend. More than three dozen students traveled to Manson NW Webster High School in Manson to compete. Carroll sent 10 teams, nine of which earned “I” or “excellent” rating. Categories moving on for the Tigers include ensemble acting, reader’s theater, musical theater, short film, group improvisation, and television news. Kuemper Catholic sent eight teams, with six teams advancing. Categories qualifying for state for the Knights include ensemble acting, group improvisation, musical theater, and short film. A list of the competing entries from both schools, along with their rosters, is included with this story on our website. The state competition will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, at Washington High School in Cherokee. The top-performing acts will then be invited to perform or attend the Large Group All-State Festival at Iowa State University in Ames on Feb. 21.
