The City of Lanesboro Park and Recs Committee is fundraising to update the current restroom facility at the city park. For many years, visitors were accustomed to using the outhouse-style restroom on the west side of the park, a distance away from the playground. Committee members stepped up, exploring the idea of adding a modern plumbing system to the current shelter house, to improve hygiene and sanitation. Organizers have a fundraising goal of $30,000 to construct a 8 by 16 foot steel building to the east of the shelter house, with a fully functional toilet and a sink. The bathroom will also follow ADA guidelines making the facility handicap accessible. Anyone that is interested in helping to continue to improve the amenities in Lanesboro can send their check donation to the City of Lanesboro at PO Box 104, Lanesboro IA, 51451. Checks should be made payable to the city with “parks and recreation” in the memo line. Anyone with additional questions is encouraged to reach out to Linette Boeck DeSart or Maddie Brower, the two spearheading the project. Pending finances, the committee is hopeful the project will be completed this summer for residents and visitors to utilize during the park’s busy season.
