Significant Damages But No Injuries Reported In Thursday House Fire In Carroll

No injuries were reported in a Thursday afternoon house fire in Carroll, but the structure sustained significant damage. The Carroll Fire Department was dispatched to 218 E. 10th Street at approximately 3:37 p.m. after a caller reported smoke emanating from the home. Fire Chief Dan Hannasch says flames were visible in the garage and the home’s interior when they arrived on scene just a few minutes later. Fortunately, the occupants were able to exit the home, and one individual was treated at the scene for suspected smoke inhalation. Crews remained on scene for several hours to bring the fire under control and to monitor for hotspots. While a definitive cause for the fire has not been determined, officials suspect it may be connected to a portable heater. The Carroll Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Carroll Police Department, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Carroll County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and Carroll County Emergency Management. Hannasch reminds residents to be vigilant in their use of space heaters, especially as feels-like temperatures plunge to as low as -40 degrees F over the next several days. Keep space heaters at least three feet away from flammable materials, do not use extension cords to power heating units, and do not leave a heater running unobserved.
