Iowa Fuel Report: Jan. 21, 2026

Movement in the state’s fuel market was mixed in this week’s report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and AAA-Iowa. As of Wednesday, Jan. 21, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in the state was $2.47, down four cents from last week and 43 cents below prices from a year ago. The national average for gas on Wednesday was down one cent to $2.83 per gallon. Iowa retail diesel prices rose, on average, 12 cents to $3.32 per gallon, 13 cents below last year. Local prices are 21 cents lower than the national average of $3.53. At the Des Moines Terminal, E10 was priced at $1.67, Unleaded 87 at $1.89, ULSD#2 at $2.21, ULSD#1 at $2.51, and E70 stood at $1.74. In heating fuels, propane held steady at $1.57 per gallon, home heating oil rose eight cents to $2.75 per gallon, and natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site spiked $1.78 to $4.87 per MMBtu.
