Cheryll Vogel, age 95 of Lohrville, IA, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2025, at Accura Healthcare of Lake City, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lohrville, IA. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 pm Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lohrville, IA, with a Rosary Service at 4:30 pm. Burial will take place in the St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in rural Churdan, IA.
Cheryll Ann was born on May 29, 1930, to parents Joseph and Josephine (Brass) Meurer in Algona, IA. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School through the eighth grade and graduated from Wesley High School in 1948. After high school, she attended St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing, graduating in 1951. Cheryll worked as a nurse in Fort Dodge for a year and then moved to Denver, CO, where she worked as a nurse for two years.
Cheryll met Don Vogel at Pat and Paul Schmitt’s wedding, where they were maid of honor and best man. They were married a year later on September 17, 1955, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wesley, IA. This union was blessed with four children: Jan, Ron, Leesa, and Joel. She and Don farmed SW of Lohrville, IA, until they moved to Ely, MN in 1984. They later returned to Lohrville in 2003. Don passed away in 2009, and Cheryll continued to reside in Lohrville.
In her free time, Cheryll enjoyed taking part in water aerobics, the Homemakers Club, and CDA. She would also spend time sewing, knitting, and doing Word Finds. Cheryll’s pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She cherished her time spent with them all. She very much appreciated all those who held doors open, assisted with her walker, or drove her for activities. Cheryll was especially grateful for her “young neighbor girl”, Jill Parker. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Jan Remsburg of Fort Dodge, IA, Ron (Annette) Vogel of Lohrville, IA, Leesa (Joe) Mundfrom of Thayer, MO, Joel “JJ” Vogel (Mark Koenig) of Las Vegas, NV & Ribas, Portugal. Other survivors include her grandchildren: Jessica (Joe) Kavanaugh of Fort Dodge, IA, Krystal (Brandon) Lynch of Rockwell City, IA, Eric (Nicole) Vogel of Lohrville, IA, Matt (Katie) Remsburg, of Lamoni, IA, Chad (Cassidy) Remsburg of Manson, IA, Katee Mundfrom and Michael Mundfrom of Thayer, MO; great-grandchildren: Ronan, Aiden, and Kiernan Kavanaugh, Alivia, Reagan, and Shay Lynch, Kase, Lakyn, and Easton Vogel, and Elam Remsburg.
Cheryll was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don Vogel, brother Jim Meurer, and two grandchildren: Megan Remsburg and Samuel Mundfrom.
