The Northwest Iowa League of Cities is offering scholarships to help high school seniors pursue education and training that could lead to careers in city government. The organization announced it will award up to five $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from member communities across northwest Iowa. The scholarships are funded entirely through private and commercial fundraising. Students planning to pursue post-secondary education or training in fields connected to municipal service are eligible to apply. Those fields include public administration, water and wastewater operations, law enforcement, firefighting, emergency medical services, city planning, and public engineering. Applications are available through local city halls or by contacting Angela Duitsman at angela@fondaiowa.com. The application deadline is April 15. The Northwest Iowa League of Cities represents more than 100 cities in 27 counties, including Calhoun, Carroll, Crawford, Greene, and Sac Counties. The organization works to strengthen local governments by providing education, networking opportunities, and shared resources for city officials and staff.
