Fmr. Storm Lake Finance Manager Sentenced To Seven Years On Federal Child Pornography Charges

U.S.-Federal-District-Court-Indictment

The former finance manager for the City of Storm Lake was sentenced yesterday (Thursday) to seven years in federal prison on child pornography charges. According to court records from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa, the sentence against 52-year-old Brian Oakleaf of Storm Lake was handed down following acceptance of his guilty plea last September. Oakleaf was convicted after an investigation determined he had received, distributed, and possessed child sexual abuse material (CSAM), including depictions of prepubescent minors, between March 1, 2022, and July 29, 2024. During Oakleaf’s plea hearing, he admitted to having at least one video over 90 minutes in length and more than 20,000 images on his two cell phones. Oakleaf was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison and must complete five years of supervised release following his incarceration. Additionally, Oakleaf must pay $54,000 in restitution to the victims. Oakleaf remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending transport to a federal penitentiary. The case was investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and prosecuted by Asst. U.S. Attorney Kraig Hamit as part of the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Project Safe Childhood.
