Two People Charged After Reckless Gunshot, Confrontation With Law Enforcement Monday In Coon Rapids

Two people are in custody in connection with an incident last (Monday) evening in Coon Rapids that had deputies from three surrounding counties respond. Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputies initially responded at approximately 5:43 p.m. to a report of a gunshot in the 500 block of Park Street. Witnesses told law enforcement a female, later identified as 32-year-old Tara Holmes of Coon Rapids, had fired a handgun into the air during an argument and left the area with a man in a Dodge Durango. Authorities later located the suspect vehicle parked outside 927 Elm St. in Coon Rapids and attempted to contact the home’s occupants. They were confronted by the male, later identified as 38-year-old Simon Lee McAlister, who was wearing a bulletproof vest and armed with a handgun. Deputies entered the home and took McAlister and Holmes into custody without further incident. No significant injuries were reported. The Audubon, Greene, and Guthrie County Sheriffs’ Offices also assisted at the scene. Holmes has been charged with reckless use of a firearm, while McAlister was booked on two counts of assault on a peace officer with a weapon, a class C felony. Both individuals remain in custody at the Carroll County jail as of Tuesday morning.
