No injuries were reported following a fire that severely damaged a home in Lanesboro on Saturday afternoon. Crews from at least four different departments were dispatched at 12:51 p.m. to 118 N. 3rd Street after callers reported smoke coming from the structure. Firefighters arrived on scene to find the home nearly fully engulfed and worked for almost three hours to knock down the flames and prevent damage to nearby buildings. The Lanesboro Fire Department was the first to respond, but they were assisted at the scene by the Carroll, Glidden, and Lake City Fire Departments, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Carroll County Emergency Medical Services, and Carroll County Emergency Management. It is not clear exactly how the fire began, but a routine investigation is underway. While remnants of the building remained standing, extensive smoke and fire damage will likely categorize it as a total loss.
