The third year of the Lake View Speaker Series through the Lake View Public Library starts tomorrow (Saturday) with the chance to hear the story of a Gold Medal Olympian. Everyone is encouraged to come to the Lake View Community Center starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday to hear from Billy Mills, and his journey to the 1964 Tokyo Olympics where he earned gold in the 10,000-meter run. Dr. Jon Quinn, a sponsor and organizer of the Lake View Speaker Series says Billy Mills has such an incredible story that has inspired books, the 1983 film ‘Running Brave’ and a nonprofit for Native American youth.

The inspiration behind the Lake View Speaker Series came after Quinn spoke on his career as an anesthesiologist, drawing in a crowd at the library. Quinn brought the idea to the Lake View Library Board, city officials, and the Lake View Community Club, as another way to invite visitors to the community.

Quinn says he is extremely proud of this event and could not have done any of it without the help of the Library Board, volunteers, and sponsors for making it all possible. He encourages all to come out Saturday to the Lake View Community Center starting at 2 p.m. for the presentation by Billy Mills and to mark your calendar for the next speaker on Saturday, April 4 with former NASA Chief Astronaut Captain Robert “Hoot” Gibson.
