As the holiday traveling season concludes, Iowans can see another slight decrease for gas prices at the pump this week according to the latest report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and AAA-Iowa. As of Wednesday, Dec. 31, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline dropped four cents to $2.38 per gallon, which is 38 cents lower than prices from December 2024. Iowa remains well below the national average, which also fell two cents to $2.84 per gallon. For retail diesel, prices in Iowa were lower by one cent to $3.30 per gallon, however that is a slight increase from diesel prices of $3.28 last year. Iowa diesel is 27 cents lower than the national average of $3.57 per gallon. Renewables at the Des Moines Terminal are $1.51 for E10, $1.72 for Unleaded 87, $2.01 for ULSD #2, $2.46 for ULSD #1, and $1.71 for E-70. As for heating fuels, propane prices averaged $1.58 per gallon, home heating oil at $2.81 per gallon and natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site were down 41 cents to $3.77 per MMbtu.
