Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll, and online condolences may be left for Bob’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com.

Bob was born on March 1, 1928, in Lake City, Iowa, to Orley and Ruth (Snavely) Iler. Bob graduated from Lake City High School in 1945. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army Air Force for three years. Following his years of service, he spent two years working with his father on the farm. He married Rose Marie Lutwitze May 7, 1951, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll.

Bob and Rose Marie began farming east of Lake City and continued farming in the area until 1990. That fall, they retired from farming and bought a home in Carroll. Bob enjoyed gardening and yardwork. He also did some woodworking and built model tractors. He and Rose Marie helped to deliver Meals on Wheels and volunteered at their church. They were members of St. John Paul II Parish, St. Lawrence Church.

They moved to Orchard View in Carroll in 2015. Addington Place of Carroll became their home in the spring of 2017. Bob loved taking care of Rose Marie until her death in 2022. After that, he kept busy with Bingo, Addington celebrations, and watching news, sports, and politics on TV. Bob was especially sharp with technology for his age. When Covid began, he learned how to FaceTime his daughters, a daily ritual that continued until a few weeks before his death. He especially enjoyed visits from his daughters and their spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was always excited to hear his nephews were coming to reminisce and share some laughs.

Bob is survived by his daughters, Sue (Jim) Nelson of Cherokee, IA, Nancy (Steve) Williams of Houston, TX, and Dianne Wood of Omaha, NE; eight grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law, Rosalia Lutwitze; sons, Michael Iler and Robert Craig Iler; son-in-law, Donald Wood Sr.; brother, Max Iler; and sisters, Bonita Ricke and Jean Heim.

Bob’s daughters would like to thank St. Croix Hospice and Addington Place of Carroll for the excellent and dignified care and support they and their father received over these past weeks.
