Representatives from Main Street Coon Rapids (MSCR) recently attended a Rural Business Initiative orientation and training where they were presented with a $30,000 Rural Business Initiative (RBI) grant. MSCR Executive Director Katie Mason says it was announced back in November that they were one of five recipients statewide for a small-business development grant from IRDC which will be used for the “Surviving Streetscaping” project.

Portions of the funding will also go to pay the salary of a new part-time position through the City of Coon Rapids and MSCR.

Mason says the RBI grant training was a great experience and was glad that MSCR President Emily Oswald and Board Member Kennedi Cretsinger were able to join her for the opportunity.

Coon Rapids officials will be starting the bidding process to hire a general contractor for the streetscaping project beginning in January, with construction slated to begin in the spring of 2026.
