Truck Ignites In Near Head-On Collision Monday Near Glidden

A Glidden man narrowly avoided serious injury last (Monday) night after his truck ignited in a collision with a semi on U.S. Highway 30 in Carroll County. According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 6:59 p.m. near the highway’s intersection with Robin Avenue. Authorities say 51-year-old Dax Andrew Bennett was traveling eastbound on Highway 30 in a 1993 Ford F150 and crossed the centerline into the path of a westbound 2026 Peterbilt semi-tractor trailer, operated by 41-year-old Jacob Lee Bonney of Dedham and owned by Pork Chop Express LLC of Audubon. Bonney managed to swerve out of the path of the oncoming pickup and avoid a head-on collision, but the Bennett truck still collided with the semi’s rear driver’s side. The Ford then spun across the westbound lane, coming to rest in the north ditch and igniting. Damage to the pickup is estimated at $7,000, while damage to the semi was approximately $5,000. Neither driver was injured in the crash. Law enforcement noted signs of possible intoxication in Bennett and conducted an alcohol test. Results showed Bennett’s blood alcohol content (BAC) was 0.236 percent, nearly three times the legal limit. He was transported to the Carroll County Jail and booked on operating while intoxicated charges. Carroll County Emergency Medical Service, the Carroll County Communications Center, and the Glidden Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
