Chop, as he was affectionately known, was born on February 10, 1940 in Carroll, IA, and he was the son of William “Bill” and Madge (Loomis) Gibson.  He grew up on his family’s farm east of Scranton and graduated from Scranton Consolidated Schools in 1957.  He was married to Delores Wenger on February 4, 1962 at Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden.  They lived on a farm west of Scranton where they farmed and raised their three children: Doug, Dawn, and later Krista.  Chop was a lifelong farmer and held a self-taught engineering degree from the School of Hard Knocks.  He could fix most anything and loved fixing Allis Chalmers tractors especially the WC’s and WD’s.  He was very involved in the Scranton community and served on the Scranton School Board for many years and the Farmer’s Elevator Coop Board for many years.  He enjoyed attending threshing bee’s, going to tractor shows, farm progress shows, and tractor rides of all kinds far and wide.  Chop also enjoyed socializing with his many friends, he always had a joke or funny story, but most of all he loved to spend time with his family.

Chop is survived by his wife Delores of 63 years; a son Doug Gibson (Tina) of Scranton; two daughters Dawn Rudolph (Jeff) of Scranton and Krista Pocta (Chris) of Ramsey, MN; six grandchildren: Talisha Davis, Tiffany Smith (Josh), Aaron Rudolph (fiancée Cassie), Jeffrey Rudolph Jr. (Jorden), Ben Pocta, and Tyler Pocta; eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Judy Gibson (Ron Reisberg) of Carroll; a brother-in-law Denton Wenger (Donna) of Scranton; an aunt Marge Stewart of Blue Springs, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

Chop was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Madge Gibson; his in-laws Glen and Gladys Wenger; two brothers: Denis Gibson and Dean Gibson (Linda); a brother Douglas in infancy; and a nephew Bradley Gibson.
